Self Help Addiction Rehabilitation, Inc. (SHAR) was founded in 1969 in Detroit, Michigan. We serve approximately 1500 individuals annually through various treatment locations, a long-term transitional facility, and two prison sites. Licensed by the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services, Bureau of Health Systems.
SHAR is a multi-modality agency providing a continuum of substance abuse services ranging from ambulatory detoxification, residential, intensive and traditional outpatient treatment, residential aftercare and prevention services. In addition to the women and children's program, SHAR has specialty programs for men, employed persons, individuals under correctional supervision (i.e. parole or probation), and individuals with co-occurring disorders.

SHAR Mission Statement “The development and operation of quality substance abuse treatment facilities and programs providing necessary support services for all clients meeting admission criteria, including those with co-occurring disorders. The philosophy of treatment is based on the principles of the Therapeutic Community model in conjunction with components of behavioral health and medical sciences as appropriate. Services shall be offered to clients consistent with available SHAR resources regardless of their ability to pay.”
